Morning šŸ˜‰

djm06:10:42

šŸ‘‹

pez06:10:28

Good morning! Feeling a bit dirty atm, because scripting in zsh. šŸ˜ƒ

reefersleep06:10:05

Every time I dabble with bash scripting, Iā€™m confounded by stuff, like the hoops you seem to have to jump through to do equality comparison

reefersleep06:10:20

Feel spoiled by Clojure šŸ™‚

pez06:10:23

Iā€™m spoiled by babashka. šŸ˜€

ordnungswidrig08:10:41

zsh scripting is a close to programming perl as I get normally

ordnungswidrig08:10:06

(I did a lot of perl in the past, way in the past, like last millenium past šŸ™ˆ )

pez08:10:09

Same here. Well, not a lot, but Iā€™ve done my share. I quite liked it.

David Vujic07:10:51

Morning! :rain_cloud:

otfrom08:10:00

šŸ˜Ž today in Tayside

otfrom08:10:20

@jasonbell obviously it is raining in Fife

jasonbell09:10:52

Ah but without the rain we wouldnā€™t have nice potatoes for the Fish and Chips.

paulspencerwilliams09:10:39

Iā€™ve got Fish and Chips for dinner tonight. Iā€™m already excited.

otfrom09:10:49

Chippie Tea

jasonbell09:10:13

Fish and chips tomorrow evening for me.

paulspencerwilliams09:10:21

The last leg of our Wednesday evening walk goes right past our chippie,. After a five mile walk, thereā€™s no way Iā€™d be able to refuse that chippie smell!

jasonbell09:10:18

I go the other way round, food first and then walk. If thereā€™s a ton of curry sauce down my front then Iā€™ll abandon the walk šŸ™‚

paulspencerwilliams09:10:47

LOL. One of my saddest memories was that of my disappointment as I started a Peak District walk a few years ago. I spent all my change on a chicken curry pastie, then walked about 500 yards down a footpath before dropping it in a muddy puddle. I nearly cried.

javahippie09:10:34

Happened to me when I was 5 years old. At the butcher shop, kids always got a free piece of bologna sausage. Went outside, dropped it, it rolled onto the street and was overrun by a police car. I cried

javahippie09:10:59

(This caused no long-term prejudice against police)

paulspencerwilliams10:10:58

Defund the police - then they canā€™t afford sausage damaging cars šŸ˜‚

javahippie10:10:06

Strongest case for hovercars, yet

ordnungswidrig13:10:03

TIL "bologna sausage" I wonder if that was actually a Mortadella, Lyoner or Gelbwurst.

javahippie13:10:45

tbh had to look up how to translate ā€œFleischwurstā€ in the first place

ordnungswidrig13:10:04

TIL "WWW" means "Weck, Worscht un Woi". Thank you wikipedia.

javahippie13:10:53

As a fomer Mainzer, I can confirm

jasonbell09:10:17

Iā€™m sorry for your loss @paulspencerwilliams

Lesson learnt : never walk and eat anything Iā€™d not be willing to lose šŸ˜†

pez14:10:49

Well, my day started with a good morning, but from there it has been my least productive open source day ever. Needed to make a new feature Windows compatible and of course I then remote desktop into my Windows machine and just fix it, right? Well, wrong. My whole Windows dev workflow was just broken for no reason that I could find. All day, just trying to figure it out. Now, all of a sudden, it started working again. I have as little clue why as with why it stopped working. This wouldnā€™t be so bad if it wasnā€™t that the thing has kept me mostly in Windows all day and that kills my spirit like few other things do. Anyway, letā€™s see if I can get the original issue fixed before my Calva day is over.

Leaving aside quantum technology, the best random number generators work by running deterministic programs on Windows

thomas14:10:47

Before you start, check the phase of the moon as well.

RAMart14:10:55

Feel hugged!

pez14:10:35

And the actual issue seems to be a quantum spin thing too. Thereā€™s no issue now when I have the tools to fix it.

pez16:10:29

And I could now release the new Calva and quite the Remote Desktop app. The latter felt best. šŸ˜ƒ

otfrom15:10:02

easy to miss the \,

slipset19:10:16

Oh, guess what I managed the other day? I managed to convince MacOS to stop hi-jacking C-M-d which is paredit-forward-down . So now I can use that short cut. Yay

mccraigmccraig10:10:32

huh, macos doesn't seem to be hijacking that for me...

slipset10:10:36

The chord I use for this is Control-Command-D (Iā€™ve somewhere perhaps in my emacs config mapped Command to be Meta

mccraigmccraig10:10:36

ah, that explains it - i have Option as Meta

slipset10:10:06

I could never survive having to move my thumb that much on a regular basis šŸ™‚

mccraigmccraig10:10:11

i've been doing it for several decades - no RSI or sudden death yet šŸ¤ž

slipset10:10:30

Right. Even though Iā€™ve been on macs for quite some time now, I must have spent 20 years or so on unix and linux, so moving meta one key to the left was never really an option .

šŸ˜‚ 1
mccraigmccraig11:10:51

but yeah, i have thought command might be nicer... but i'm scared to fiddle with the towering house of cards that is my macos keybindings

otfrom19:10:33

that is :female_mage:

otfrom19:10:43

good for October Spoopy Season
