I found out South Korea has fantastic bike roads that get you all across the country, and going eastward from Seoul has really nice mountains to ride through.
Nice! Looks like a very nice place for cycling. I’m stuck inside for now riding the rollers.
This is why I now have two bikes, one for outside in summer and one for the rest of the year. Problem is that I only have one body, and it prefers outside in summer.
a recent discovery (for me) is that running in the rain is much nicer than riding in the rain - quite enjoyable even - so i'll be keeping my winter riding to nice days now
I recently discovered Trail Running was even a thing (despite being a quite avid runner) I got some shoes last summer but mountain biking is far too addictive 😄 I'm just back from a 4h ride around Montjuic (Barcelona)
this is my ride. tyre size is the average between that of @U0525KG62’s two bikes
mountain biking is my thing too @U45T93RA6, but i've been finding it hard to get out during the week - i seem to need about 3hrs to fit in a satisfying ride, including time to prep and to clean bike. running is much easier in that respect - i'm on trails straight out of my back door and 1hr is enough to get a satisfying run in, so i'm trail running during the week, mtb at the weekend now
that looks like a seriously slack head angle @U45T93RA6 - is that 63° or something ?
4.3" seems to be enough to get me around the beaches here at around 8-9psi pressure in the tyres
@U0524B4UW yeah MTB is time eater. I tend to do two big rides per week, and two smaller ones just for skills / scratching the itch 😇
@U0524B4UW 65.0 ° to 65.6 ° (it's a scott genius, the angle varies as you hit the twinloc lever)
it is cheating if you pile up more rocks on the top of the mountain. That isn't its real height 😉
btw highlight of my day was being chased by a large dog in a hilly park... I climbed/descended those small hills but the dog wouldn't give up at some point I had to run over a massive hole while descending / being chased... I was like 'this is it, I'm getting injured again'. I literally don't know how I got past it 🌀 I guess the suspension did its job
could it be your bunny-hop skillz ?
I wish I had that mental clarity 😄 the only trick I pulled against the dog was skidding, in an attempt to confuse it by changing my direction abruptly
Morning! I started my day by looking at this awesome demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYA4AAjLfT0
Morning! ☕ 🌅 Aiming to get a REPL Driven blogpost out before 🌆 - it will be about bringing great ideas & workflows from to other languages (i.e. Python).
According to rumours there is like no petrol, super expensive electricity and winter’s comming?
been working from home these last 4 years, which helps to dodge out the worst of it
there IS petrol up here but you might have to invest an hour or so to queue for it
I know gas and 'leccy rises are happening, but still waiting for solid figures
its the dismalness of the politics that's most depressing
the main opposition still doesn't quite seem to know to how point out the awfulness of this lamentable government
and the BBC news reporting is a major disappointment; they really are turning into government propaganda
I do want to be able to drive 400 miles to visit my Mum in a couple of weeks; that is my main worry about fuel
but aware how lucky that makes me, that we dont need to drive much for everyday living
morning!

yeah, don't need to drive much atm, which helps (hooray for working from home). Been ordering groceries online, and definitely had more subs and missing items over the last few months. Not as bad as the initial pandemic panic though
but I think this winter is going to be horrible
combination of slashed benefits, raised food and energy price and a steep tax hike to look forwards to next April
whilst Her Majesties' Government plays around with rocketry
feels like a proper King Canute moment is almost here
but the ones paying for it will not be the ones making decisions
yeah, broader fairness, justice, and general political stuff here is completely messed up. Privilege means that I'll be able to dodge the worst of it (for now).
where are you based @slipset? somewhere in the Nordics?
I think that UK is going to have to jjoin the SingleMarket/Customs Union sooner or later
question is how much pain the government is prepared to inflict on us before they bow to the inevitable
the current lot dont really care, so we probably have to want until we have gotten rid of them
sooo... how many of the 5 years of this parliament are left? They'll only call an early GE if they think they can win
I had a taste of various import taxes from uk goods here. Until this gets somewhere I am not ordering anything from the uk
2019 ==> 2024
afaik, there are still a few "transition agreements" in place that haven't expired yet so I don't think we quite know all the pain yet
they've still not dared impose proper customs checks incoming
some online shops are a bit in the dark too, some will remove uk vat before shipping other leave it so you get double taxed for nothing etc etc
yeah so at the moment UK producers have the export disadvantage of full EU customs/excise but do not have the corresponding advantage against EU imports into the UK
giving them the worst of both worlds
I appreciate VAT collection is a import disincentive though
Good morninG!
hey @ordnungswidrig! How’s bank life?
Tuition at Oxford for Computer Science and Philosophy increased from 24000GBP to 39000GBP 👀
universities are under a lot of pressure atm. The gov't in the UK doesn't like them, esp liberal arts (history, literature, social sciences as well)
