Good Morning!

simongray06:06:29

lots of zoom meetings today and the sun is shining bright outside… gonna be tough to make through to the end 😉

dharrigan07:06:31

can't you zoom outside?

simongray07:06:57

I guess I could, actually, but probably too late to find a suitable spot now. I don’t think the mobile signal is good enough in our courtyard and our wifi can’t quite reach the tables, since they’re in the other end

@borkdude and others - wrt to the allergy discussion from yesterday… I thought I had severe allergies since I have all of the symptoms, but turns out I don’t… instead I have oversized nasal polyps which means that slight changes in moisture makes my nose act out all the time. Alcohol also gives me allergy-like symptoms. I am solving it by spraying my nose with some medicinal spray twice a day and it has basically made me “allergy”-free. Perhaps some day those polyps will increase further in size (sure hope they don’t) in which case I would probably either need surgery or would have to learn to live with “allergy” symptoms again.

borkdude07:06:08

Interesting. Could you share which medicinal spray this is? I think my wife has similar problems

simongray07:06:35

The drug itself is called mometasone furoate. You need a prescription for it here in Denmark.

simongray07:06:09

Googling the English name made me look up the side-effects… yikes…

borkdude08:06:06

Cool. My wife is using flixonase but perhaps this one is more effective. And yeah, googling side effects, better not ;)

otfrom08:06:44

wow, I'm glad I asked now as I get similar allergy like effects when I drink alcohol (start getting sinus headaches while I'm drinking)

reefersleep09:06:11

Don’t know if it’s related, but I once read about a particular surgery that people sometimes get to remove stuff in the nasal passages which sometimes causes intolerable sensations afterwards. Something like breathing directly into the brain or something like that. It’s driven people to kill themselves.

reefersleep09:06:16

Maybe I’m misremembering the details, but definitely not about the suicidal thing, that made a dent. I’ve always got a stuffy, insensitive nose, myself, and I remembered thinking “Welp, I guess this is the better alternative”

reefersleep09:06:26

I guess what I’m saying is, I’d make sure to research possible after-effects before getting surgery like that! Similarly, I’ve been advised (casually, at a party) to get LASIK to correct my vision because it’s awesome to see near-perfectly again, but some people have very averse reactions to surgeries like that, too. Remember seeing a documentary where a guy had extreme tunnel vision after surgery, he could only see a little pinprick in the distance 😱 I’ll live with my glasses 🙂

reefersleep09:06:54

It’s great that you’ve found something that works for now, I’m crossing my fingers that it keeps working 🤞 🤞

simongray10:06:50

I think maybe I told you about that, back when we were still working together? 😜 I've read the same thing anyway. There's a particular diagnosis that people sometimes get after having nasal surgery that makes them feel like they have a hole in the head. It often leads to mental illness and death.

simongray10:06:05

Or in the face, rather.

reefersleep16:06:34

I have an irrational fear of that syndrome!

reefersleep16:06:45

Can't remember if we talked about it.

gklijs07:06:50

Morning, I'm lucky for meeting, got a roof terrace right next to the wifi router. ☀️

simongray07:06:46

Meeting’s about to start. Guess I will have to hand over this little fella to his mother.
