good morning
@raymcdermott I look at that pic and go 1. ooh pretty 2. ooh ticks
yeah, it's messy but I enjoy a tick hunt 🙂 ... I go that way on Sundays to avoid the loose dog hassling mountain bikers on the more popular trails
I hope you all got your TBE shots.
I like seeing deer around here, esp when they are on the beach gazing out at the waves, but I could do with less risk of Lyme disease
At least you can treat Lyme disease when discovered early. Do they to a lab check on tikcs in the UK?
they are getting better at staying on top of it in Scotland at least (I also see warnings up in some of the woods, tho not on the range I go to where I know there are deer)
They seemed to be last time I looked into this, after discovering them for the first time in France.
Morning
@otfrom @ordnungswidrig Have you seen this, we’ve all got one.
Lyme caught early enough, three weeks of double dose Doxycilin usually does the trick. If it’s left too long then it’s a nightmare.
yeah, I have never got a tick nor has the dog from our wanderings so far. We used to have cats and they got them so they are around these here parts.

for dogs apparently you can give them something so their blood effectively becomes poisonous for ticks. Don't know the details but I know my buddy does that, if he does find ticks on his dog they're already dead
Dogs and Lyme are better catered for than humans and Lyme as it stands. The blood tests are debateable at best, Elisa test full spectrum has a 57% false positive rate and don’t even get me started on bee sting therapy. It’s like ME/CFS plenty of sufferers but not much in the way of research money being sent to it.
The Lyme charities are all about awareness, not treatment. The number of GoFundMe pages of folk with no where else to turn is shocking.
I run in the forest, get ticks from now and then. Had Lyme disease this spring. Got some drugs and was fine
Yeah, got it was detected. I know people who suffer since years because of an undetected infection.
@kardan If it’s caught early enough then it’s not a huge problem. Long term it’s a nightmare.
I have a few friends who had it, been very uncomplicated. But think key is to get treatment quickly
In germany they would prescribe our antibiotics even without a diagnisis when you might have gotten a tick bite.
(It’s a little more nuanced but you get the idea)
I do a routine after each run. Full body search. These days I know my body more than I would like to 🤕
This year have been a good year for the little bastards. Would guess I have removed 15+
@kardan Skin cancer also will have a hard time on your body.
I do have horses and stuff on the path towards the proper forest. I blame that section for the ticks to not stay away from my heaven
