I missed all the Eurovision talk…. 😞

synthomat09:05:56

Morning, happy father’s day!

otfrom09:05:59

we can still keep having it

otfrom09:05:09

@synthomat where is it Father's Day?

synthomat09:05:52

aaah I see, I thought it was international – it is to some degree but on totally different dates 😅

synthomat09:05:04

in germany it’s today, holiday

synthomat09:05:53

but it’s also ascension day, which seems to be a holiday in more countries

genRaiy10:05:07

Ascension = Hemelvart in Vlanderen - locals also take tomorrow off to make a long weekend. Usually a sweet deal but has less sugar this year.

otfrom11:05:11

of course in the UK we have more poetry in our souls. We have time off on Monday and we call it....

otfrom11:05:16

Late May Bank Holiday

😂 4
Ben Hammond13:05:04

er sorry, Whit Monday

otfrom13:05:35

I think you'll find it is "Spring bank holiday"

genRaiy13:05:41

Renaming Labour Day "Early May bank holiday" is political wrongness gone mad

Ben Hammond13:05:10

it used to be just 'May Day' holiday when I was growing up

genRaiy13:05:53

over here it's still called Dag van de Arbeid (Labour Day) and we need more of that now, am i rite

jasonbell13:05:06

@ben.hammond I thought May Day was the first May bank holiday

otfrom13:05:13

and we don't celebrate Early May Bank Holiday on 1 May, it is just on the first Monday in May

otfrom13:05:44

and this year it was made into Victory in Europe Day (and only a few people thought of it as Victory over Europe Day)

😝 4
Ben Hammond14:05:06

yeah but (my part of Englandshire) referred to it as the May Day Holiday even though it mostly wasn't actually on the first

Ben Hammond14:05:15

I'd assumed that was normal

Ben Hammond14:05:46

deffo agree that MayDay and Whitsun are completely different holidays

otfrom14:05:11

calling it Whitsun just means you're posh 😉

Ben Hammond14:05:29

ah the old scones - scons dilemma

otfrom15:05:23

I avoid most of this as people can't really tell if I'm posh or not, I just sound North American

otfrom15:05:53

In Liverpool and Yorkshire they thought I was American (and were confused), in London they didn't care, in Scotland they assume I'm Candian

otfrom15:05:56

and are confused
