good morning everyone ☀️

synthomat07:05:52

good morning!

genRaiy08:05:04

when I said "hello gents" yesterday I was referring to the gents who said hello to me, so far it's all gents saying hello but if any non-gents are here I want to include you in the hello and be clear that I don't think we are only gents. When I was growing up The Gents was always the toilet. There probably is still something to that. Although the gents on here are obviously delightful. Anyway, good morning.

Ben Hammond08:05:51

if you are almost a gent, does that make you a tangent?

also what you call a mathematical fellow that's had too much sun ☀️

topic for the group then: does anyone use https://bookdown.org/? If so, have you managed to integrate CLJS?

genRaiy11:05:36

new topic - is everyone enjoying lunch 🙂

thomas11:05:10

just done lunch... it was good, we sat outside

ordnungswidrig11:05:11

not yet, but I can smell some nice Kässpätzle being prepared in the kitchen. Some of the perks of not having doors yet.

otfrom11:05:50

chicken, mayo and sriracha sandwich and then a nice socially distant walk. It is a scorching 15C here

ordnungswidrig12:05:55

23°C and sunny 🙂

otfrom12:05:27

almost too hot

ordnungswidrig12:05:46

occasional clouds make it nice.

genRaiy12:05:48

23 & ☀️ ; rice and bean stew ... don't judge me

otfrom12:05:13

that sounds tasty

otfrom12:05:30

I'm enjoying the sandwiches atm as they are with the bread we make in the bread maker

otfrom12:05:56

the recipe is a bit of a repeatable mistake, it wasn't supposed to work in our model, but has come out really well and consistent

jasonbell14:05:17

17 and scattered showers, I can live with that today

otfrom14:05:41

@jasonbell you southerners have it too warm

just had an almond chocolate magnum (vegan variant obvs) - lovely in the sun

ordnungswidrig15:05:26

How is the vegan variant?

Ben Hammond15:05:36

I do worry about the scalability of highly-processed vegan foods

Ben Hammond15:05:50

its great to eat vegetables

Ben Hammond15:05:35

but highly-processed whipped palm-and-coconut-and-almond oil confections....

Ben Hammond15:05:18

its not obvious that they represent sustainable agriculture

Ben Hammond15:05:56

or biodiversity

Ben Hammond15:05:04

sorry, not having a go

ordnungswidrig15:05:43

Yeah, I’m not a vegan but I’m interested in vegan food. (and the full footprint)

genRaiy19:05:44

you're right @U793EL04V everything is terrible

genRaiy20:05:43

joking aside, it's difficult to scale beyond a certain point. Certainly scaling animal death has not been / is not good.

genRaiy21:05:02

how serious do we want to get here?

Ben Hammond07:05:37

Creating more monocultures is a problem

Ben Hammond07:05:44

that's really my point

genRaiy08:05:46

not quite sure how we got there from my enjoying an ice cream in the sun but ok

genRaiy08:05:36

maybe veganism always has a passing air of claiming the moral high ground ... I certainly don't want to do that

genRaiy08:05:23

and to the earlier question of @U054UD60U the vegan variant is delicious - doesn't have the usual bitterness of vegan chocolate and the ice-cream is a pleasant texture with a vanilla flavour

synthomat15:05:47

As a continuation on yesterday’s bicycle thread
