Good morning friends.

jasonbell07:04:15

Y’all safe and well?

mdallastella07:04:32

Morning! Everything is fine here.

thomas08:04:26

morning, we are safe and well, thank you. And you?

Ben Hammond08:04:23

so far so good

ordnungswidrig08:04:25

Same here. My girls a sewing face masks and my 3d printer is printing face shield frames. Just a regular covid-19 day. 🙈

Ben Hammond08:04:50

what material do you use for masks/ plain old muslin?

jasonbell09:04:24

So sticking spare underpants over your head is no longer required?

thomas09:04:24

In your case @jasonbell that is still required.

jasonbell09:04:21

@thomas Appreciate the confirmation, always good to check I believe.

otfrom09:04:47

@jasonbell I always thought that was part of your "character" just like your boots

jasonbell09:04:29

(clojure.string/replace s #"character" "breakdown")

otfrom09:04:05

you mean that isn't just an act?

thomas09:04:52

it is a way of life for Jade I think

Ben Hammond09:04:06

I am extremely confused about the face mask thing, I must say

Ben Hammond09:04:56

I understand that the WHO advice is orientated towards directing medical resources towards medical professionals

Ben Hammond09:04:34

there's definitely value in a piece of cloth catching my filthy sputum on its way out

otfrom10:04:07

masks won't do much to protect you, but should help to protect those around you. Cloth masks are sufficient for this and don't deny medical and care professionals the PPE they need

otfrom10:04:22

(or at least this is my understanding from some doctors and public health people)

otfrom10:04:36

you don't need it if you are at home or socially distancing though

jasonbell14:04:04

@otfrom you mean that isn’t just an act? << Ah but the mystery is in the not knowing. 🙂

jasonbell14:04:52

@thomas it is a way of life for Jade I think << Only if there are enough underpants available. Expect panic buying soon…..

😂 4
jasonbell15:04:24

It’s a crazy world out there…

Ben Hammond15:04:55

I wonder what the total biomass of Covid-19 has got up to by now

Ben Hammond15:04:54

obviously one single virus is very small/lightweight (10nm spherical?) but there must be alot of 'em by now

val_waeselynck00:04:10

More like 300nm iirc

Ben Hammond15:04:59

enough to fill a pot of caviar? a swimming pool?

Ben Hammond15:04:24

I guess we will never know

otfrom15:04:21

I'm sure someone can do the sums on that

Ben Hammond15:04:11

(* 4/3 3.14152694 5E-9 5E-9 5E-9)
=> 5.235878233333332E-25

Ben Hammond15:04:32

so thats volume in m3

otfrom15:04:58

5.3 m3? That is big enough

Ben Hammond15:04:52

butter is 0.911 kg per dm3

Ben Hammond15:04:36

lipids, they're all (roughly) the same, innit?

Ben Hammond15:04:23

so thats 911 kg per cubic metre

Ben Hammond15:04:51

4.769885070566665E-22 kg per virus

Ben Hammond15:04:38

10E-21 is zepto

Ben Hammond15:04:15

so thats 0.05 0.5 zeptograms per virus?

Ben Hammond15:04:11

477 yoctograms might be easier

Ben Hammond15:04:42

don't have a scooby how MANY of the little blighters are getting churned out though

otfrom16:04:32

a fair few?

otfrom16:04:37

sigh, when you do (into [] when you mean to do (into (sorted-set)

otfrom16:04:46

and then do C-u C-x C-e

😆 4
