it made a lovely hissing sound when I pulled it out of the tyre

made me realise that when I actually buy a bike for doing this that it needs to be a fat bike (some bits of the flat sand I had to walk the bike over) and I need tubeless tyres so that the thorns aren't as much of a problem

there is this spray can thing that pumps some quick-curing elastic foam into the tubes. I carry it with me on longer trips, never hat a flat since then. 😛
