Hopefully some bits will be coming back soon :flag-scotland:

fmjrey18:02:49

What is the point of independence if it's to join a larger structure that will take away again all the regained sovereignty and offer even less democratic control?

thomas08:02:34

more economic integration?

thomas08:02:04

freedom of movement?

helios09:02:31

freedom of choosing one's own destiny.. same as UK decided to leave

otfrom10:02:52

Scotland would have more of a say in the EU than they do in the UK. Ireland shows that.

fmjrey10:02:33

fair enough, though once you join the collective sure you can move freely around but keep in mind you'll loose your sense of identity and any decision will have to be unanimously approved by the collective...

otfrom10:02:52

I disagree about losing the sense of identity and needing a consensus to change rules sounds pretty good after seeing 3 legislatures vote against a big constitutional change but seeing it go through anyway.

fmjrey10:02:26

try changing the EU with unanimity across 27 members...

fmjrey10:02:17

same as 27 flats (different) owners in a building agreeing on paying for important work

fmjrey10:02:16

there is always one who will find it less beneficial and disagree

fmjrey10:02:39

the EU as it is is a gridlock

fmjrey10:02:10

who gets to make decision then? certainly not the people of each country

fmjrey10:02:09

lobbying is rampant in Brussels so financial and business interests are those who call the shots

fmjrey10:02:59

I'm all for friendship and cooperation among nations, but not at the expense of less control by the people for the people

fmjrey10:02:36

and since it is a gridlock, the only way to change the EU is for enough countries like UK to leave

fmjrey10:02:59

so I am thankful to the UK for that

fmjrey10:02:30

and hope more will follow so we can start again on a better basis

otfrom10:02:34

well, we'll just have to disagree on that score then

fmjrey10:02:25

time will tell 🙂

otfrom10:02:47

yeah, but even then we'll both be able to point to different bits of evidence to support our arguments

fmjrey10:02:38

let's stay close to the facts then

thomas10:02:17

it's complicated... let's agree at least on that.
