morning lovely people... everyone a good weekend? Not too cold I hope? Here in :flag-nl: we had a little bit of snow yesterday morning, but today some drizzle and not as cold anymore, so whether that counts as an improvement I am not sure.

otfrom09:12:28

haar in Dundee, Scotland

thomas09:12:45

haar? must be some kind of Scottish I suspect. (In Dutch it means 'hair' or 'hers')

thomas10:12:53

learned something new today..

3Jane11:12:08

While Eskimo have 50 words for snow, people on the British Isles ( treads carefully ) have 50 words for fog and rain?

๐Ÿ˜‚ 12
otfrom14:12:39

well crafted. haar (or har) is probably Scots around here rather than English.

helios11:12:26

Dutch people have a lot of words for how much it's raining, right @thomas?

thomas11:12:13

@lady3janepl The Brits have over 140 words for being drunk! That is how you measure if something is important for a tribe IMHO

thomas13:12:07

sounds very scientific to me...

thomas13:12:25

and even more here:

thomas13:12:43

and it is from the BBC. So therefore it is true โ„ข๏ธ

helios13:12:52

@thomas yes, that's why in italian there are a LOT of words for genitalia :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:

danielneal13:12:23

llol, is this true?

thomas13:12:46

from the second article: The only subjects that fill the pages of English slang more are money and sex

thomas13:12:22

I think it just indicates what is important to people. Snow for Eskimo's... and the rest booze, money and s#x ๐Ÿ˜‰

helios13:12:46

@danieleneal yes if you also factor in that every region would have their own words

RAMart14:12:52

>While Eskimo have 50 words for snow They don't: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eskimo_words_for_snow

otfrom14:12:21

I like how in English turning any noun into a past tense verb can stand in for getting drunk

otfrom14:12:36

I was well emacsed at the weekend

๐Ÿ˜‚ 4
thomas14:12:14

and now we have 3,001 words for being drunk...

danielneal14:12:25

I was totally git stashed

๐Ÿ˜‚ 8
parrot 4
thomas14:12:38

but @otfrom..... surely in your case it would vi'ed ?

3Jane16:12:25

some people will viโ€™llify any drink

otfrom14:12:13

@thomas the booze wasn't that old. I was vim'ed

thomas14:12:00

when I was a young boy it was called Vi... and therefore I will call it Vi!!!

otfrom15:12:42

but, vi isn't vim. vim is a different thing that happens to have the same keybindings and share a lot of the ideas

otfrom15:12:53

otherwise I'd let you get away with that

otfrom15:12:15

(btw, it is nice having a silly conversation in #clojure-europe for a change ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

danielneal15:12:30

as opposed to in #clojure-uk?

otfrom15:12:01

or #brompton which tends to strangely be more on topic than most channels I'm in ๐Ÿ™‚

danielneal15:12:32

ah I didn't know about that channel. Although fair enough, I don't have enough brompton to join

otfrom15:12:26

neither does @thomas but that doesn't stop him

otfrom15:12:34

it has gone a bit general cycling really

otfrom15:12:02

I think it was mostly to move the bike chat out of clojure-uk

thomas15:12:08

I just hijacked it... and I bike each day as well, but purely as a mode of transport for me. I'll get my bike fixed if there is a problem, but I never had a look at the tyres and contemplated getting different ones.

thomas15:12:19

but to get back to the vim/vi topic... I almost always type vi at the command line.

otfrom16:12:20

I bet it is aliased to vim tho
