I'm the one without hair.
I am here. Are people already here or should I get the table?
I’m by the fireplace
just parked!
(parking is no joke over here! 😂)
I took the bus 🚌
Sean’s shirt is green, so very noticeable.
Great to meet y'all! Good food, good beer, good conversations! Thank you, @feedmyinbox02_clojuri for organizing this. See some of you in a couple of weeks in SF?
Indeed great to meet again
I'll be there! Thanks @hmoorefarley for suggesting Drake's and getting us such a great table! Nice and warm by the fireplace! 😊
I'm looking forward to seeing you all in a couple of weeks!
We talked about so many wonderful things last night but I woke up haunted by the fact there exists a band, favored by Sean, called “Throbbing Gristle” 😂
Much as I love TG, they are not actually my favorite band -- that distinction goes to The Fall: another English band that I've seen live countless times during the '80s and '90s https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fall_(band)
Oh, I will be checking out all of these. English-wise, my “punk” listening history only goes as far as The Kinks, which have a special place in my heart
Indeed, and they are great live! I saw them in a small town hall in... the early '90s I think? They did five encores, the last of which was "Lola" which they had teased us with several times, by playing the intro and then saying "Nah, you're not ready for it yet!"
WOW! That is amazing I would have loved to see The Kinks as well as The Who when they were still making those small hall rounds
My mum saw The Who live and said they were amazing. The Who and The Kinks are more "Mod" than "Punk" and, while I like The Kinks, I'm not much of a fan of The Who (although I like some of their stuff). Jay is a fan of The Who -- one of the rare overlaps around the edges of our musical tastes...
Ah, right the “Mods” — they mention that term in one of my favorite rock documentaries, also on The Who, called “Amazing Journey” where they feature that old black & white footage of them in those very town halls! Amazing
Where in England did you grow up, Sean? I still have some family there myself.
One cousin and his family in London, the other not too far away but I always forget the name of the town
I spent about 9 months there studying abroad in college, very good memories! (And many very good pints!)
The Mods and the Rockers hated each other 🙂 We didn't see that again until the Skinheads decided they hated the Punks in the late '70s. My first ever concert was The Stranglers with Wire supporting. The police had to escort us punks out of the venue when it ended because gangs of skinheads were waiting to beat us up... 😐 I was born and raised in N. Ireland during "The Troubles" and my family had to move back to the mainland, and settled in the south of England (West Sussex, south of London). I moved to Hampshire for ten years (west of London), then moved to California.
Wowwww
A very difficult history
My family is Egyptian and so complicated (but, in my view, ultimately beneficial) entanglement with the British. Several on my mom's side moved to study, start businesses in England, and so a part of that side still there
As a kid, my school organized tours of the Mediterranean and one of those took me to Cairo and on to the pyramids. That same trip also took me to Beirut and then to various places in Israel. Several places we couldn't go, due to fighting. It was the early '70s.
