Traffic from Apple is a little Heavier than expected. I’ve let Emily of CapFac know I’m running behind and to let you all in. See you shortly
I just realized I forgot to bring an HDMI dongle 😕 (I’m presuming it’s HDMI). Anyone have a USB-C to HDMI dongle with them?
You on a Mac?
If so you can airplay to screen
I have one but it’s at home. 🥺
Yep, Mac. AirPlay will have to work!
Door should unlock at 6:45 if I’m not there yet Emily said. She’ll be by to check on stuff after that too
See you shortly
Door unlocked, dongle in the room! We should be set!
Cool
See ya soon
Tonight’s stream
Hey all, thanks to everyone who came out last night for my talk, and for the great discussion and questions. @dpsutton shared some great info about how they use transducers in anger at Metabase, and we discussed what the https://clojuredocs.org/clojure.core/eduction function is actually for. My slides are available here: https://speakerdeck.com/camdez/the-duality-of-transducers There are still a few annoying visual quirks (it was my first time using https://github.com/yjwen/org-reveal), so I may re-upload later if I can find time to tidy it up.
great talk! and great vibe at the meeting
Enjoyed it and learned some good stuff.
Thanks! Glad to hear it. I’ll keep trying to understand when to actually use eduction , haha.
I think you just need more education in order to understand eduction.
Really helpful presentation, though. Thanks, Cameron!!!
the enchiladas were outstanding as well
Anyone wanna talk at next months meetup? 😎
Slots are open! 😂
I still have a couple of topics I want to do, but I’m heads down now, at work, for some super tight deadlines.
@mlimotte Does that mean you can’t do it next month, or you can’t commit right now but might be able to later? Also it looks to be on Valentine’s day, which might be an issue for some…
Totally fair, I just want to get a jump on scheduling this time around. @mlimotte So we can lock you in for March 13th?
Sorry I couldn't make it, I'll check out the recording
Hopefully Tanya's car is fixed by the next one 🤞
Sadly, no recording
Well, slides then
And yes, it is on Valentines Day
Bring a date
What’s the most romantic Clojure topic? 🤔
Destructuring
Ouch
🤣
I was thinking Conj
😆
@mlimotte And is that going to be specter or lib-python?
I’d say lib-python. i want more time with specter-- it’s a whole ’nother language. But the lib-python is only going to 15 to 20 minutes. I played with it a bit, but didn’t have a need to use it in the end. Just going to show basic capabilities, syntax and a few things I learned w/ examples. Do we have another short talk to pair with it?
Would love to see if anyone did cool stuff with babashka, or nbb. Ideally a TUI that you use
@mlimotte I imagine we can find something.
@dpsutton I’m using it more and more and I’ve replaced most of my scripting in projects with it (deploy scripts, little tools), but I haven’t really done anything notable.
I use it as a make replacement for my personal website
Not really complex enough to be too interesting
I was gonna show libPython-clj since I didn’t get too. But if you wanna show it Marc, that’s fine
I was gonna show some Python numpy and stuff
I could do a thing, and then you could show some additional examples afterward?
Matt Cox has better stories, though.
So what’s the topic for next Wednesday meetup?
valentine’s day, closing day on the new house, and clojure meetup day. busy day
uh oh.. didn’t notice that. conflict?
not sure. the house is the big valentine’s day present
but decent chance we want to celebrate at night too
Are you tying a bow on it? “Surprise!!!”
My father did that for my mom for their first house lol
jenny is having to reach out to two jobs prior, a startup who’s name has changed and no one who worked with her works there now to verify employment. Absolutely nothing about this house will be a surprise
“Jenny, would you mind filling out these 10 surveys and getting notarized?” “What’s this for?” “Oh, nothing.. just curious”
“jenny, just as a lark, can you verify that you are authorized to work remotely and it will not affect your compensation. you know, like for kicks and stuff”
yea man. that’s the price for romance.
Ahh the total loss of financial privacy that comes with getting a mortgage
"Did your parents give you this $100 to buy a house?!" No it was for my birthday. "We need a letter from your parents to prove that"
yeah. and the weird thing is, i’m not having those issues. So not sure if my company responded or it’s just a sexist system
Great interview with Matthew Cox, $55 million mostly in Mortgage fraud: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMYvGf7BA9o In case you need some motivation.
We have a great set of talks shaping up for the next few months, so I hope we can get a few more people coming out next meetup. Maybe drag a friend out who needs more Clojure in their life? haha. We also had some interest over dinner in doing some low key (and low planning) social events on some off-weeks. Will be fun. As a reminder, we have a https://trello.com/b/5IF1znJN/austin-clojure-presentation-topics. If there’s something you’d like to hear about or speak about, please join the board and do so! You’ll want to to add to the Ideas and Available lists. • Please add yourself to the card (under “Members”) if it’s a topic you’d like to speak about. • Feel free to add unclaimed topics that you’d like to hear about. • Move your card to Available if you’re happy to give the talk at one of the next couple meetups and we’ll work together to get it scheduled soon. • You can vote (👍) for topics others have created that you’d like to hear about. • You can comment on topics (esp. useful if you want to offer to present on a topic someone else has proposed). • There’s a lightning label you can apply to short presentation topics, which helps us with scheduling to appropriate amount of content.
