noticed that if you choose to start a new repl => new standalone repl => create new project folder, then Calva opens a new VS code window instead of loading the project in the current one. is this a design decision? i tend to end up with two vscode windows that way and have close one of them every time i start a project. not a big deal, just seems like unideal ux.

It’s how VS Code works. The commands have been renamed to make it less confusing, but maybe you are using some open source version of VS Code, that marketplace is broken atm and doesn’t accept new versions.
