I saw this only yesterday. Turns out the terminal in VSCode had a different $PATH because it was using sh instead of bash.
P. S. Meta is MacOS lingo not specific to Emacs. But you are right about Meta being Alt.
@hindol.adhya , do you know of a way a user can work around the problem?
If you, for some reason, don't want to do that, then appropriate shell config needs to be updated with path to node/npm/npx.
