the babatype example is actually so cool I pinned its icon to my launcher. Maybe I'll finally learn to fully typewrite (correct 10-finger method) even when coding https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RD3qnilMVh0

I'll take a peek in a few hours

that looks really cool. how did you make it?

total claude slop 😄

yeah sure but still

honestly, I have not reviewed a single clj source line since I had the todo.clj example made. That one I studied. System monitor was the "wow" moment, and I just skimmed it with my eyes. Remaining examples were just "surprise me, you know the drill, you already achieved system monitor". after I had this idea of making "simple Monkeytype clone" demo, I started with this generated plan md https://github.com/brdloush/bb-gtk-ffi-gui/blob/main/plan/babatype.md. After initial implementation, I had to reshape the behavior by 5-10 turns to be usable.

But as said at the beginning, it all started with https://yogthos.net/posts/2026-08-29-glimmer-ui.html and your blog post.

what I meant was which c lib did it use for this.

I'm on ubuntu, so GTK4 and libadwaita

(having pretty much zero knowledge of both)

btw after I pinned the Babatype (being basically bb babatype ) to my dock launcher... it's ridiculous how fast it starts. Even many "normal" (non experimental) apps don't start that fast 😄

With choice of good portable native libs, bb honestly feels like a cheat code. Single binary, multiplatform, nrepl, clojure, immutability, most of usable libs and functionality already pre-baked, the rest reachable via FFI. Really looking forward to see what people will make with this combo.

No idea if gtk4+libadwaita combo is easily executable on other platforms than linux tbh

just playing, having fun

mac works too

if you want cross platform, apparently libui-ng abstracts stuff for you

or IUP (I'm just googling)

maybe it's like making mobile apps. the abstracting frameworks get you less precise sometimes non-native controls

so maybe it makes sense to just develop for mac/linux first and then do a specific windows version

Yeah, there's so many more or less strange combination one can do these days.. yet even big AI providers still keep feeding us with "embedded chrome" shitty apps.. or even no apps at all. Until recently, there was no claude desktop (GUI) app for linux facepalm and basically they left the whole linux community to rely on some 3rd party unofficial experimental packages.

ironically, in these times, it should be relatively cheap to provide good, often native apps on different platforms

I just use it from the terminal

same. And few months back I even realized that there's a (rather hidden) official "vim mode" in claude cli (not too bad)

btw the choice of "function names of clojure.core" was a good idea. I'm not only learning typewriting kebab-case stuff, but ocassionally hit a function I had no idea that existed 🙂
