I am absolutely thrilled to be announcing the 0.0.1 super-WIP version of #joyride together with @borkdude! We are making VS Code hackable in a way almost reaching Emacs levels. Using Clojure instead of Elisp. How do you hack? Easy peasy. Install the Joyride extension in VS Code. Start Joyride's nREPL server. Connect your REPL. Hack away. Or should I say: Take VS Code on a Joyride. https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=betterthantomorrow.joyride

Could it be that the link to the docs is off? https://github.com/BetterThanTomorrow/joyride/blob/HEAD/doc/configuration.md gives me a 404?

@U04V5VAUN PR welcome. This is your chance to becomes one of the initial contributors!

pez14:04:56

How did that preview appear?

borkdude14:04:28

the word HEAD should be replaced with master

pez14:04:20

Please use the hashtag #vsjoyride on Twitter when telling the world about this, Clojurians. You are going to tell the world, right? gratitude

@U0ETXRFEW Are you going to announce it on Twitter? Can't wait to RT you ;)

pez14:04:25

@borkdude you retweeted almost before I had submitted! 😃

borkdude14:04:50

I'm that eager

borkdude15:04:11

@U04V5VAUN The link should be fixed on the next version in the marketplace

leifericf15:04:21

Hold up, did you guys just make an extension to make extensions in Clojure 😅 Awesome stuff.

Awesome! Let's do another one for Emacs and vim 😂 Clojure to extend them all

vim should be doable (for neovim via rpc)

pez15:04:16

To make you don't need extensions @U01PE7630AC 😃

man .. just when I decided to give Emacs a try 🙂

pez15:04:22

I've heard that ELisp is not as joyful as Clojure is. 😃

Eugen15:04:23

true, but they have org-mode - which is my main driver for it (I'm not dropping Calva 🙂 )

borkdude15:04:59

@U011NGC5FFY There's no reason to choose just one religion ;)

kennytilton08:04:08

Doh! @borkdude So now I have to schedule three days off from mxFlutter to evaluate Calva? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnvgWYm8B84

Akiz13:04:41

I can’t wait for someone to ask the classic question “Do you use VSCode? Why don’t you use Intellij or Emacs!?” “Because it’s a joyride.”

didibus04:04:32

This is cool, but you can never approach Emacs level 😛 sorry to tell you, the VSCode API is just too restrictive.

👍 1
pez04:04:31

True dat!

didibus04:04:37

That said, you guys definitely make it harder and harder for me to resist giving VSCode another chance, Calva, Clojure-LSP, now this, it's looking great. Clojure tooling has never been so great, thanks to you all!

I recorded a small demo which hopefully can relay some of how fun it is to hack VS Code this way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1oTf-1EchU
