so many fascinating things going on up there! ^

dave00:09:52

i like the orbifold / tonnetz stuff a lot

dave00:09:24

combine those models with cellular automata logic and then use that data to drive alda, and i think you'd end up with some really awesome algorithmic music

dave00:09:39

this is the kind of stuff i'm really interested in doing, as a composer

dave00:09:10

i just know a lot more about music theory than i do about cellular automata or geometry 😛

dave00:09:49

in college i composed a few pieces of music that used randomly generated integers to determine the pitch content

dave00:09:07

which is interesting in its own way -- it ends up sounding a bit like 12-tone music

dave00:09:00

but having a codified logic like this (an AI, even) generate musical content is really compelling

I'm happy to help with the CA/generative stuff if anyone wants to try to use it with Alda. Generating sequences will be easy with the code I've written. Generating sequences that actually sound good will require music theory skills that are beyond me at the moment, but should be lots of fun for someone with the musical knowledge.
