Anybody encountered that problem with lein deploy clojars on linux:

...
Could not sign /home/ul/Projects/freactive.core/target/freactive.core-0.2.2.jar
gpg: signing failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
gpg: signing failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device

ul09:08:23

Earlier everything worked fine, gpg was asking password.

ul09:08:33

Now it doesn't and fails with the error above.

@nberger: Thanks a lot! Downgrade helped.

@plexus: I have a mailing list for Cursive, and I would love to not be managing it myself

cfleming13:08:24

@plexus: Or to be managing it but have it be easier and prettier than it currently is.

plexus13:08:32

I can set up a subforum/mailing list for cursive and make you a moderator

cfleming13:08:47

Is that Discourse?

plexus13:08:59

yes it's discourse, but set up so that you can use it as a mailing list

plexus13:08:34

e.g. you can email to <mailto:[email protected]|[email protected]> and it will make a new post, you can subscribe to a subforum, you can reply by email

cfleming13:08:35

Ok, interesting, that was always what put me off using Discourse - it seemed to be set up for it in theory, but not in practice

plexus13:08:05

I've been using it for chestnut for a while now and all the mailing list features are there now

cfleming13:08:21

Interesting, thanks, I’ll take a look. Was it difficult to set up like that?

plexus13:08:00

not too difficult. it checks a regular pop3 account for incoming mail, and uses mandrill for outgoing mail

plexus13:08:39

so it's a bit of setup getting mandrill going, anti-spam records in DNS etc

plexus13:08:55

and you need to configure an incoming mail address per "category"

plexus13:08:13

so a couple settings in different places you need to know where to find but all in all it's pretty smooth

cfleming13:08:28

A category is like a subforum, looks like?

plexus13:08:50

yeah exactly, I've also tried to set things up that they're nicely seperated

plexus13:08:25

e.g. discourse will warn you if a post you're writing is similar to one that already exists, but it will only look in the current category

plexus13:08:31

I'm not allowing uncategorized posts

cfleming13:08:43

Ok, thanks, that’s interesting. I’ll take a look. I think ideally I’d like something to be hosted under the Cursive domain, but it looks very nice.

cfleming13:08:58

I’ll play around with it some and think about it.

plexus13:08:18

here's some more info on the intent and motivation http://clojureverse.org/t/soft-launching-clojureverse-org/105

cfleming13:08:40

I definitely need a better solution than my current one. I’m actually very happy with the mailing list I use, but the web UI I had to write myself and is totally ghetto.

plexus14:08:11

that's really the problem these days... GNU mailman is still totally fine, except the web UI is something out of the stone age

cfleming14:08:21

I like this, which was my main motivation: The most popular alternative, Google Groups, is hosted by a massive corporate entity with dubious intentions.

plexus14:08:22

and there's no decent alternative, except now I would say Discourse

cfleming14:08:50

Indeed, plus it’s just a pain to manage mail servers.

plexus14:08:20

we tried librelist for a while for emacs berlin, but it also has its problems and isn't very actively maintained or managed

cfleming14:08:29

I’ve been trying to de-googlify my life but it’s surprisingly annoying and hard to do.

cfleming14:08:37

They’re a de-facto monopoly for a reason.

sveri14:08:45

fastmail is a nice mail service btw.

dottedmag14:08:03

+1 for fastmail, they even got xmpp, carddav and caldav

sveri14:08:35

and you can use your own domains with it, even with the basic plan

cfleming14:08:16

Yes, they’re my #1 candidate for replacing gmail

mcgivernsa14:08:41

fastmail support is also really good, once you get through to a dev simple_smile

tcrayford14:08:12

I'm 👍 on fastmail as well. Switched to them in 2013, never looked back

stian14:08:08

Yeah, fastmail has been pretty smooth sailing here as well.

bostonaholic14:08:09

+1 on fastmail, I'm (slowly) moving from gmail to fastmail

jeffh-fp14:08:19

spam isn’t bad on fastmail?

bostonaholic14:08:50

for those that do have http://yourname.com email address, what do you use for the <user>@yourname.com?

bostonaholic14:08:24

I've set up me@ but it feels awkward

dottedmag14:08:58

but it's a nick anyway

bostonaholic14:08:19

the latter won't work since I own http://firstnamelastname.com

mcgivernsa14:08:50

people I know tend to use either me@ or firstname@

bostonaholic14:08:41

I like the hello@ for business cards, contact forms etc. but for an address that I'll respond with, firstname@ isn't bad

timgilbert20:08:33

@bostonaholic, I give a different email address to every site and service, so like for yahoo I might use <mailto:[email protected]|[email protected]>

timgilbert20:08:53

Makes it very easy to find out who is selling my email address to whom

timgilbert20:08:32

Plus I like to think it fuzzes up demographic data about me, but who knows

bostonaholic20:08:33

and create labels for those

bostonaholic20:08:27

I'm checking if the +label trick will still work with fastmail

mcdemarco20:08:34

@bostonaholic: I use my initials.

bostonaholic20:08:54

mcdemarco: yeah, I've considered that, too
