People who do conferences, do you usually talk about things you do at work or things you do in your time off work?

alandipert20:08:25

@cddr: talking about something i’m really excited about seems to work best, sometimes that’s hobby, sometimes work

cddr20:08:25

I really want to do a conference (or even just a meetup talk), but I find it really difficult to find time to deep dive into one topic enough to have any sort of authority on it. Really impressed at people who can do it.

alandipert20:08:42

to me that is the prime advantage of speaking on something you’re excited about, because you’re at the height of your knowledge/interest, and the preparation doesn’t feel like work

alandipert20:08:00

another maybe helpful thing is, you don’t have to be an authority, you are telling a story… not THE story

alandipert20:08:08

(necessarily)

alandipert20:08:40

and stories can be told from all kinds of viewpoints, all of which can sound interesting

alandipert20:08:22

anyway, my .02. its fun 😸

cddr20:08:27

Seems like good advice. A cddr talk about https://github.com/cddr/crud coming to an SF meetup soon simple_smile

cddr20:08:00

Thanks for the words of encouragement

nberger20:08:08

@cddr crud looks very nice, go spread the word about it! simple_smile

@cddr: I can't find it... but there are definite stats out there re: open source adoption and doing presentations at meetups and conferences
